Accelerating the SME transition to electric commercial vehicles in the UK

B4NZ and The Federation of Small Businesses are hosting an exclusive roundtable discussion exploring how to accelerate the UK’s transition to electric commercial vehicles and improve the financial incentives available for SMEs to make the switch to zero emissions vans and HGVs.

This workshop will form part of a series of sessions hosted by B4NZ and the FSB to explore concrete policy solutions to support SME access to green finance in different real economy sectors. This work will support the work of the Net Zero Council’s SME Workstream.

Switching from a conventional fleet to electric vehicles offers smaller businesses a way to help the planet, improve their reputation and make significant cost savings. However, while there has been some progress in e-van availability, significant barriers to mass uptake from SMEs remain and commercial fleets are still struggling to find vehicles that can meet their range, charging speed, payload and price criteria.

Bringing together industry and policy executives, this discussion will explore the challenges and opportunities faced by SMEs in financing and accelerating the deployment of electric fleets in the current landscape of rapidly changing technology, supply-side constraints and economic challenges. As part of these discussions, we will produce a series of policy recommendations to ease regulatory barriers and accelerate solutions towards increasing SME uptake of electric commercial vehicles.
