New York / London – September 23, 2025 – Seneca ESG, a leading AI-enabled sustainability software company, and Bankers for Net Zero (B4NZ), a UK initiative aligning finance with climate action, today announced a strategic partnership during Climate Week NYC. The collaboration is designed to accelerate the development and adoption of a standardised emissions reporting framework for UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Key elements of the partnership include:
- Seneca ESG joining B4NZ’s technical steering committee to help establish a UK SME Voluntary Emissions Standard.
- A streamlined version of Seneca’s AERA carbon reporting tool, tailored for SMEs and aligned with the new standard.
- Commitment to an open, interoperable framework for carbon—and ultimately broader sustainability—disclosures across SME value chains, including financial institutions and large corporates.
SMEs form the backbone of the UK economy, yet most lack the tools and guidance to measure and report their climate impact. At the same time, financial institutions and corporates struggle with inconsistent and incomplete emissions data from their suppliers and customers. By combining B4NZ’s convening power with Seneca’s technical expertise, this initiative aims to break the complexity – creating a common language for disclosure that reduces the burden on SMEs while improving transparency for lenders, regulators, and supply chain partners.
“SMEs need clarity, not complexity. Our goal is to give them a simple, practical pathway to report emissions data that meets the needs of banks, corporates, and regulators alike,” said Jonathan Ha, CEO of Seneca ESG. “By leveraging software + AI and streamlining our AERA tool, we’re making carbon disclosure accessible at scale.”
“Standardisation is critical if SMEs are to participate fully in the UK’s net zero transition,” added Hannah Cool, B4NZ’s Chief Operating Officer. “This partnership ensures that the voices and data of SMEs can flow consistently into the financial system and beyond, helping unlock finance, strengthen supply chains, and accelerate climate action.”
The streamlined AERA tool will be rolled out to UK SMEs beginning in 2026, with pilot programs launching later this year. Both organisations are inviting SMEs, banks, and corporates to participate in early cohorts to help shape adoption.
